On November 12, Venice was hit by the highest tide since 1966. The flooding caused estimated damages up to 1 billion Euros.
The Global Shapers Community Venice Hub is promoting a campaign to raise money for Fondazione Querini Stampalia. Donations will be used for urgent conservation treatments to the invaluable collection of books.
Fondazione Querini
Support the Foundation
Following the exceptional high tide that hit the city on the night of last 12 November, the Querini Stampalia Foundation has had extensive damages to the entire ground floor of the building.
Our goal is to help the FQS in gathering individual and corporation donations in order to support the costs involved in the process of restoring the books that will be needed for more than 600 linear meters of shelf space of book collection. The books in question consist of a comprehensive collection of rare art publications and miscellaneous pieces from the late 19th century and a vast collection of modern literature, trade magazines and periodicals.
5.000 Euro will allow for the full restoration treatment of 10 linear meters of shelf of the damaged collection.
The damaged books and miscellaneous will undergo a special process of restoration in a highly specialised center in Italy for disaster recovery of books, one of the few in Europe.
The treatment will involve various steps and procedures, one of which is the freeze-drying process.
